journalist, jessica hume
Posted October 24th, 2009 by jessica humeMy name is Jessica Hume and I am a Canadian journalist, I work in the Middle East. I am looking for people who participated in the protests against the WTO Millenium Round in Seattle in Nov and Dec of 1999, for a piece looking at those protests, their impact at the time and what effect they still have now, 10 years later.
If you took part in the protests and are interested in sharing with me your stories of that experience, please contact me at either of the emails below.
Thank you so much.

The Impact of the “Battle In Seattle”

costumes,
passion,
interest,
adrenaline.
Or, at least
the elements
of a good fuck.

the people
My friends behind me chanting,
“Please arrest us, please don’t poison us.”
Undoing all of their organic
food diet of years.
Nic draws a chalk line between us
and the black-clad chorus line,
“Line of love.”
They charge forward,
pepper spray everywhere,
similar to the poison of sperm
when it is unwanted.
Shake, shake shaking
their canisters
Auhh, ohhhh

Dear David Solnit,
I went to the recent screening of "Battle in Seattle" and I stayed for the monologues that followed. I was disappointed in the movie and in what Kevin and Randy had to say. But, I was glad that you were there and that you chose to speak. I gathered from what you said that you and I would have similar critiques of the movie ...

Posted September 24th, 2008 by Mark ReadThe Shocking and Awful series is the document of the events that came out of that first Indymedia center. Over 100 Videographers contributed footage, and 30 minutes of programming was produced daily, uplinked to satellite, and rebroadcast by approximately 75 public access stations around the country, as well as on Free Speech TV. You can check out all the programs at deepdishtv.org. Search the catalogue for Showdown in Seattle, and "view program details."
It was one of the most incredible weeks of my life, in all honestly. It changed me forever.
